Gerry Glynn

Gerry Glynn was born in Dublin and formed an early interest in drawing, painting and sculpture. Apart from a brief period in the National College of Art and Design, he is completely self-taught. He then went on to develop his own distinctive style in oil painting. He was at first influenced by classic sculpture, the surrealists and then, impressionism.

He is at home with most of the painterly subjects, being an exponent of street scenes, still life, landscape, seascape and interiors. He has also expressed an alternative flair for a 'magic realist' style uniquely his own.

Gerry was recognised a number of times in the 1980's when he won seven top awards in the National Art Competitions for drawing and painting, 1980 to 1986. In 1985 he won an award for portraiture in a National Portrait Award Competition, and in 1988 he won the top award in an International Art Competition for his large magic real piece 'The Ninth Hour'.

The Department of Defence and the National Treasury Management Agency have a number of works in their private collections, as does Castle Leslie in Co. Monaghan. Much of his works are in private collections in Ireland, U.K. Europe, U.S., Canada, Australia and Japan and also in the collections of a number of television and sports personalities.

Gerry has a listing in Whytes Buyers Guide to Irish Art.
